Building a Home: Start to Finish Series Part 6: Post-Construction

Building a Home: Start to Finish Series Part 6: Post-Construction 1

In the final installment of our Building a Home series, you’ll watch as the Cottage by the Lake becomes home to our clients.

Over the last several months, you’ve been able to watch the Cottage by the Lake transform into an actual home. At this point in the process, the foundation has long been poured, the roof has been shingled and the walls have been painted. After a painstaking amount of meetings, blueprints and choices, we’ve finally entered into the post-construction phase. From the early beginnings to the handing over of the keys, we’re so glad that you’ve come along for the ride with us.

We finally wrapped up the Cottage by the Lake in June 2019, after a long journey of decisions and delays. With this build, the home couldn’t sustain a basement due to the high water table. Instead, we poured a concrete slab on grade with embedded hydronic radiant heat coils and a boiler heating system. We also finished up the build with a stunning 3-season porch with a fireplace and natural limestone floor. After all the finishing touches were complete, we were all ready to close the chapter on the Cottage by the Lake. As the team behind Gilbert + Burke, we do our very best to ensure that the post-construction phase goes by as seamlessly as possible. We are all excited and anxious for our clients — you — to receive your keys and begin making your new house a home, but there are a few more steps to check off before the doors can finally be opened.

First off, we’ll have a final meeting. In the meeting, we’ll go ahead and walk you through your finished home and ensure everything is as you expected. If not, our team will be there to touch things up. We’ll also do an overarching rundown of the budget, and then send over a final invoice. Once the I’s are dotted, the T’s are crossed and the invoice is paid, we’ll hand you your keys and it’s time to build a home in your freshly built house!
