The People Who Have Made Us: The Gilbert + Burke Team

20 years of business have made us lucky enough to meet many people who have changed the Gilbert + Burke team, like each of our team members.

As we celebrate 20 years in business, we also celebrate 20 years of the people who have helped us run, manage and build every piece of it. At Gilbert + Burke, we’re lucky to have a team with a myriad of strengths and talents that have led us to who we are today. We’re a small team with a big heart, and we’re proud of each and every person that we call part of the Gilbert + Burke family.

Randy and Cathy Burke founded the company in 2000, and after years of healthy expansion, realized it was time to bring in another dedicated individual to help grow the company. Joining them in ownership was award-winning project manager, Brian Gilbert.

Award-winning Peter Groza serves as our senior designer, bringing over 30 years of experience to our team. Groza elevates everything that we do, bringing his connection with the outdoors and his supreme taste to each and every project he touches.

Nathan Willems rounds out our fantastic design team, and he came to the table as a Honours graduate of the Architectural Technologist program at Georgian College.

Larry Swalm works in sales and project development, bringing more than 34 years of experience with him as he works with clients on the preliminary design processes — which include defining the project scopes and coordinating construction drawings — as well as helping clients with the permitting process.

Our project developer Jaidyn Kim is a civil engineer who uses his past experience as a construction supervisor and a property coordinator to notice tiny details in planning each project, rounding out our project development team with an incredible amount of value.

Rebecca Farnsworth has a Bachelors of Interior Design and is the creative brain behind our interior design and decorations. She uses her passion to create stunning spaces rich in natural, wood-based furniture and beautiful, sustainable materials.

Our administrative manager Emily Johnston-Hartin keeps it all running, using her incredible skills to anticipate our needs before we do.

In the field, our Site Supervisors are skilled carpenters who manage all the projects. They ensure every detail is carried out to code and to the client’s satisfaction. Currently our field Site Supervisors include Gord Watts, Shawn Malec, Andrew Quinn, Ernie Trimper and Lachlan McLean. Our craftsman carpenter/cabinet maker is Barry Dart. They are the heart behind the team and without them, the work would not get done!

Over the years, we’ve learned the unmatched value of building and cultivating a great team. In our 20th year of business, we’ve done just that — and we can’t wait to continue along this road with these incredible people in our corner.
