The value of dreams
Spring is around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about building! We are longing for the ‘new’ and ‘fresh’ in almost every aspect of our lives. We can’t help but look forward to all the possibilities and freedoms that the coming seasons have in store.
As the days grow longer, it’s hard to not catch ourselves daydreaming about warmer weather, improvements around the house, outdoor clean-up, and eventually, weekends at the cottage. Sometimes, those dreams are what keep us going at this time of year!
In fact, dreams hold more power—and more value—than we tend to give them credit for.
It reminds us of one of the first pieces we ever created as Gilbert + Burke—an online commercial talking about the value of making space for your dreams. Just over a year ago, we followed our dream to evolve our company, Evergreen Home and Cottage, into what is now Gilbert + Burke. There were growing pains, moments of doubt, and an overwhelming presence of the unknown. Change can be difficult to approach at first, but meaningful change can be a lasting blessing and we think that is truly valuable.
We believe value should be put towards dreams ahead of anything else. When it comes to build projects, it is undeniable that finding a budget a client can manage is essential, but when building a dream home there should be room for everything that dream entails. While those custom kitchen units cost more than their generic counterparts, they are worth the difference during those tasty food adventures with family and friends. This is a kitchen they enjoy every day and that enjoyment should be considered along with the details of finance. What about that beautiful backyard patio that extends the landscaping budget, but extends the priceless moments of relaxation during a go-go-go schedule?
Isn’t spending now worth even more later? We think it is.
