Muskoka Lake - Contemporary Cottage Builder

A modern, grounded retreat.

Some projects are infinitely special to us even though we didn’t design them – like this grounded, modern retreat off of a Lake in Muskoka. Another firm designed this cottage, but we were lucky enough to be the ones to build it. Completed with the stunning eye of our senior designer Peter Groza, this cottage rests on the lake shores as a contemporary showstopper, nestled among the trees and the quiet.

What made this beautiful project unique?

We wanted to ensure that the landscaping met Muskoka’s vibe with special attention paid to the outdoors in this build. With natural plantings and granite pathways, we worked to make sure that the cottage mingled with the land it sits on. We also focused on retaining as many local trees as possible, and their beauty was something we wanted to highlight.

Indoors, the cottage was dressed with wooden windows, wooden floors and neutral colours to bring an outdoorsy feel into the modern design. With the addition of stone, we were able to soften the contemporary architecture and design while keeping it unique and special to the client and the previous designer.
