A rustic, luxurious Muskoka lakeside retreat.
Perched right off the stunning lake shores, this luxury cottage has been a true Gilbert + Burke highlight since its build just a few years ago. By blending together contemporary architecture alongside rustic elements, we were able to create a cottage that made use of the topography while retaining a truly unique and stunning feel at each and every turn.
What made this beautiful project unique?
A signature Peter Groza design, the location of this cottage was grandfathered in right on the water. We were able to use minor variance processes to expand the footprint and build closer to the water, which is a huge piece of the lakefront feel we were able to achieve.
While the uniqueness of this project is apparent at every glance you take, one of the most distinctive pieces of the puzzle came from the owners themselves. Originally from eastern Europe, the owners wanted to bring in finishing touches and pieces from the “old country” itself, which added an entirely new level of depth to the build. With in-floor hydronic heat that keeps the cottage constantly warm and comfortable along with homages to the old home (such as the old garage that complements the rustic wood siding), this cottage quickly makes an impression as a blend of magnificence, earthiness, simplicity and intentionality.
