Moon River View Cottage

A home that honours the past and embraces the future.

The magical property that the Moon River View Cottage sits on is rich in history and deep in character. Purchased by 2 sisters in the early 1900s, the property became a destination called “Fairyland.” For many years, the property served as a place for fun, magic and adventure. After the property fell into disrepair in the late 1900s, our clients purchased it with the goal to continue honouring the past while moving the property forward into the future. With the rich architectural appeal, the Moon River View Cottage hasn’t lost an ounce of its character.

What made this beautiful project unique?

The history on the Moon River View property made this project particularly unique to start, and we were absolutely determined to keep every ounce of magic, character and uniqueness present. Building in a historical location can always be a little difficult, and we were lucky not to run into a considerable amount of issues. However, we were dealing with municipal regulations that determined which parts of the property could actually be built on. We also were building on an interesting piece of land, where a steep downgrade to the river made things a little tricky.

What were some of the most interesting and captivating design choices?

With the Moon River View Cottage, a huge priority was maintaining the historical feel that the property carried in its DNA. We also wanted to make the absolute most of the river views surrounding the property, so we thought out the build in a practical way to maximize coverage and views. With an open floor plan that allows light to pour into the home, we also brought in elements of the past with a kitchen rich in old-fashioned finishes, rounded doorways as a nod to history and a historical blue colour on the doors. The house includes a variety of stone, wood and tile to both incorporate nature and correlates with the owners tastes, and everything from shiplap wall cladding to a striking slipper tub continues to add to the character.
