Client Vision
Our clients envisioned a custom boathouse with three purposes—boat storage, aquatic fun, and housing guests. They sought a luxurious space where their family could gather, relax, and create lasting memories on the shores of Lake Rosseau. Inspired by their love of rich textures and timber framing, the design blended natural aesthetics with elegant comfort. The project also presented a unique challenge—adhering to the municipal regulation limit of 650 square feet. Let’s explore the details that make this custom boathouse one-of-a-kind.
Design + Build
The construction of this custom boathouse showcases precision engineering and superior craftsmanship. Built on a solid foundation of steel piles, the structure is designed to withstand the elements for long-lasting stability. The timber frame is the centrepiece of the design. Curved rooflines and exposed beams add timeless beauty. Inside, cathedral ceilings create a sense of openness and grandeur. Thermally-treated burnt ash was selected for the decking due to its durability. Solid wood structural beams improve airflow between floors, reduce trapped moisture and prevent mould or rot. These materials also minimize VOC emissions to promote healthier indoor air quality. A recycled rubber Enviroshake roof was added for insulation and weather resistance.
Boating Features
The boathouse features oversized slips that are purpose-built to accommodate boats up to 30 feet long. The design ensures easy access and maneuverability, even for larger watercraft. Dedicated mechanical rooms provide secure spaces for essential systems and maintenance equipment. Additional storage areas keep boating gear neatly organized and readily accessible. This seamless layout makes preparing for a day on the water effortless.
Water Integration
The design of this custom boathouse blends with the natural surroundings of Lake Rosseau. Using steel piles to replace old crib docks expanded the footprint without causing harm to the lakebed’s ecosystem. Natural finishes and textures were selected to reflect the boathouse’s organic aesthetic. These design elements preserve the integrity of Lake Rousseau and minimize environmental disruption.
